NELSON MANDELA
“It
always seems impossible until it’s done - Nelson Mandela
Nelson
Mandela was born on the 18th July of 1918 in Mvezo, El Cabo.
He
studied law at the University of Fort Hare. He joined to the African National
Congress (ANC), an organization that did campaigns against discrimination and
exploitation of the black people of South Africa.
He
organized manifestations against the system of racial segregation called
apartheid but the government of South Africa killed the people that had gone to
this manifestations. For this reason, Mandela create an organization called
Umkhonto we Siwze.
One
year later, Mandela was captured in Johannesburg and submitted him to life
sentence when he was 46 years old, but his followers and governments of other
countries started requiring his liberty and the abolition of the racial
segregation.
In
1990, the president Frederik de Klerk gives freedom to Nelson Mandela, when he
was 71 years old. A few months later they negotiate the elimination of the
apartheid and in 1991 it was officially eliminated. For this, all of them
received the Nobel of Peace award in 1993.
In
1994, Mandela was chosen for the president of South Africa and governed since
1999. In these years, he helped with the reconciliation of the South African
people.
In
2012, his health got worse because he had a pulmonary infection. In June of
2013 his health was in critical state and on the 5th of December of
2013 Nelson Mandela died in Johannesburg.
